The Ottavia Vintage Sculptural Color Block Wall Sconce is the rare fixture that lets you choose the color rather than accepting whatever the manufacturer decided. Ten combinations are offered, pairing shade, body and base in different tones, which means the sconce can be matched to a room instead of the room being arranged around it. The form itself is timeless and unfussy, so the color is doing the work and the shape stays out of the way.
Construction is metal and plastic. Warm white is the deliberate choice here: it reads soft and slightly amber rather than clinical, which is what makes a wall fitting feel like ambient lighting rather than a functional one. Mounted at eye level it lifts a wall; mounted lower beside a chair or a bed it gives just enough to read by.
The palette runs through red, salmon, beige, green and black in various pairings, from the almost entirely neutral beige and black combinations to bolder green and red schemes. The neutral combinations sit quietly in most rooms; the colored ones work best where there is already a palette to answer to.
