Installation guide (no tools, about 5 minutes)
Before you start. Have two E12 candelabra bulbs ready, as none are included. LED bulbs of the same color temperature give the most even glow and stay cool against the paper. Pick a spot on a firm, level floor within reach of an outlet.
- Unpack the lamp. Lift it out of the box by the frame rather than the paper, and lay every part on a clean, flat surface. Check the shade for creases or tears before going further.
- Assemble the lamp. Join any separate parts following the manual, tightening each connection by hand so the column stands straight.
- Fit the bulbs. Screw one E12 bulb into each of the two sockets inside the column. Do not overtighten.
- Position the lamp. Stand it upright on a level surface, clear of radiators, heaters and open flames, and check it does not rock.
- Connect the power. Run the cord along the floor to the outlet, keeping it out of walkways, and plug it into a standard US wall socket.
Moving it later. Unplug it first, then carry it by the frame with both hands. Nothing needs taking apart.
Troubleshooting
| The lamp will not turn on | No power at the outlet, or the bulbs are loose or have failed. Check the outlet with something else, make sure the plug is pushed fully home, then tighten or replace the bulbs. |
| The glow looks uneven | One bulb has failed, or the two bulbs differ in brightness or color temperature. Replace both with a matching pair of the same wattage and color temperature. |
| The light flickers | A bulb is loose, has failed, or is not suited to a dimmer it is running through. Tighten the bulbs first. On a dimmer, use bulbs marked dimmable. If it still flickers, replace the bulb. |
| The lamp rocks | The floor is uneven or soft, or a connection is not fully tightened. Re-tighten the parts by hand and move it onto a flat, solid surface. On thick carpet, sit the base on a thin board. |
Dust the rice paper with a soft dry brush or a lint-free cloth. Keep water and cleaning sprays off the paper. Wipe the frame with a soft dry cloth. Unplug the lamp and let the bulbs cool before cleaning or changing them.
