Installation guide (no tools, about 15 minutes)
Before you start. Measure floor to ceiling where the lamp will stand. It must be between 98.5" and 110" (250–280 cm). Pick a spot on a firm, level floor within reach of an outlet. A second person makes the last step easier.
- Unpack the components. Take every part out of the box and lay them on a clean, flat surface. You should have the pole sections, the lamp base, the ring section, the acrylic globe, the LED bulb and the power cord. Check nothing is damaged before you start.
- Assemble the pole sections. Connect the pole sections following the visual guide in the manual, tightening each joint by hand so the rods sit flush and in line.
- Attach the base. Secure the lamp base to the bottom pole section. This is the round floor disc the whole lamp stands on.
- Install the globe shade. Guide the acrylic globe into the ring with both hands until it sits evenly, as shown in the install video.
- Insert the bulb. Screw the supplied E26 LED bulb into the socket. Do not overtighten.
- Position and tension the lamp. Stand the lamp where you want it, on a firm level floor and within reach of an outlet. Extend it until the ceiling plate is pressed flat against the ceiling, anywhere between 98.5" and 110" (250–280 cm), then adjust the tension mechanism until the lamp is firm. Check it is vertical and does not move when you push gently from a few directions.
- Connect the power. Run the cord along the floor from the base to the outlet and plug it into a standard US wall socket.
Taking it down. Unplug it, lift the globe out, release the tension and lower the rod. No marks are left on the ceiling or floor.
Troubleshooting
| The lamp will not turn on | No power at the outlet, or the bulb is loose or has failed. Check the outlet with something else, make sure the plug is pushed fully home, then tighten or replace the bulb. |
| The light flickers | The bulb is loose, has failed, or is being run through a dimmer it is not compatible with. Tighten the bulb first. If you have it on a dimmer, take it off — the supplied bulb is not dimmable. If it still flickers, replace the bulb. |
| The lamp feels unstable | The tension is not fully engaged, or the floor is uneven or soft. Re-adjust the tension until the ceiling plate and floor disc are both in firm contact. Move it onto a flat, solid surface; on thick carpet, sit the floor disc on a thin board so the tension holds. |
Wipe the frame with a soft dry cloth. Clean the acrylic globe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry it. No solvents or abrasive cleaners. Unplug the lamp and let the bulb cool before cleaning or changing it, and re-check the tension once a season.
The Oris runs a slim polished column from floor to ceiling with a single frosted globe held in a metal ring at eye level. It gives a corner the presence of a fixed light fitting while taking up almost no floor space, and because the globe throws light outward at mid height rather than down from a shade, it lifts a room more evenly than a floor lamp of the same output.
Installation is tension based and needs no drilling. A telescoping rod at the top presses a round ceiling plate against the ceiling, the tension mechanism at the base sets the pressure, and a round disc sits on the floor. It plugs into a standard wall outlet, so there is no ceiling wiring and nothing to patch when you move, which makes it one of the few statement lights that works in a rental. The iron frame keeps the whole piece rigid rather than springy, which matters on something this tall.
Three finishes. Silver is polished chrome, the coolest and most architectural, pairing with stainless, glass and pale walls. Gold is a bright polished gold, the warmest, sitting naturally with walnut and mid-century furniture. Bronze is a softer, antiqued gold with a deeper tone that holds its own against dark paneling, leather and heavier joinery. All three share the same frame, globe and fittings.
