Motion sensor lights are usually made of white plastic and look like what they are. The Fjell Rechargeable Warm Matte Wooden Sensor Light is a small block of real wood, which means it can sit on a nightstand, a shelf or a stair without announcing that it is a piece of hardware. It comes on by itself when it detects movement and goes dark again when the room is still, so it does the job of a night light without ever needing to be switched.
It runs on a built-in rechargeable battery, so it does not need to be near a fixed light point and can be moved as easily as any small object. That opens up the places that are always awkward to light: the inside of a wardrobe, the back of a cupboard, the top of a staircase, the corner of a hallway. The light itself is gentle rather than bright, which is deliberate, since the point of a night light is to show you the way without waking you fully.
Two woods are offered. Walnut is the darker of the two, with more visible grain and a richer tone that sits well against deeper timber and heavier furniture. Birch is paler and quieter, closer to a Scandinavian palette and less noticeable on a light surface. Because the grain of each piece differs, no two are quite the same. Fjell suits bedrooms, hallways, staircases, cabinets and home offices, and it is small enough to use several around one home.
