Installation guide (one screwdriver, about 10 minutes)
Before you start. Pick the spot you want the light to hang, then find the nearest outlet, because the cord runs from the pendant up to the ceiling, across to the wall and down to the plug. You have 177" (about 15 feet) to work with. You need a screwdriver, and a drill only if you are going into masonry. Different walls need different fixings, so use the screw and wall plug that suits yours.
- Mount the ceiling cylinder. The small dark metal cylinder has a keyhole slot in the back. Drive its screw into the ceiling where you want the pendant to hang, then slide the cylinder onto the screw head and pull down so it seats. The cord hooks over the lug on its side.
- Hang the pendant and set your drop. Loop the cord over the ceiling mount and slide it through until the shade sits at the height you want. Everything above that point becomes the run to the outlet.
- Mount the wall cylinder and route the cord. The second cylinder is identical and screws into the wall, roughly above the outlet. Run the cord across from the ceiling, hook it over this one, and let the rest fall to the plug. Keep the cord at least 3 feet away from cribs and toddler beds.
- Fit the shade and the bulb. Lift the glass shade up over the socket, then screw the retaining ring up underneath until the shade sits firm but not tight. Screw in an E26 bulb of 40 W or less, or the LED equivalent.
- Plug in and switch on. The plug is polarized, so one prong is wider than the other and it only goes in one way. Never force it or modify it. Use the in-line switch on the cord to turn the lamp on.
Care. Switch off and let the glass cool before cleaning. Wipe the glass, wood and metal with a soft dry cloth. No chemical solvents or abrasive cleaners, they will damage the finish.
A pendant changes a room in a way nothing else does. It adds height, it adds depth, and it puts a pool of warm directed light exactly where you want one. The glass is what gives it character. Brown is a deep antique amber that reads as evening even in the afternoon. White is milk glass, brighter and more neutral, and works where you want the light rather than the fixture to be the feature. Red is saturated and unapologetic, for a room that can carry it. All three sit under the same turned wood stem and dark metal collar.
Nearly fifteen feet of fabric-wrapped cord comes in the box, so the cord is part of the design rather than a problem to hide. Drape it low over a bedside table, sweep it across to a corner, or run it above a reading chair. The in-line switch sits on the cord where you can reach it without getting up, and with a dimmable bulb and a plug-in dimmer the same lamp covers a bright reading glow and the softest late-evening light.
