The Lume Rechargeable Dimmable Ambient Portable Touch Lamp is a small lamp with no cable running from it, and that single fact changes where a lamp can go. It does not need to live near a fixed light point, so it can sit on a bedside table, move to a windowsill, or move from room to room through the evening. Touch the lamp to switch it on, hold to dim it, and the same touch surface steps through color temperature.
It is rechargeable rather than battery-fed, so there is nothing to replace, and the draw is low enough that a charge lasts through normal evening use. The light is soft rather than bright, which is the right character for the job it does: reading a page, finding your way across a room at night, or putting a warm pool of light on a dining table without lighting the whole space. It is a companion light, not a main one.
Eight colors are offered, from black, gray and dark gray through white and into red, wine red, yellow and blue. The neutrals recede and let it sit as a quiet object on a nightstand; the reds and blues make it a small piece of color on an otherwise plain surface.
