The Elise Dimmable Brushed Fabric Shade Cordless Table Lamp looks like a classic table lamp, which is the whole point: a brushed metal body under a proper fabric shade, proportioned the way a bedside lamp has always been proportioned. The difference is underneath, where there is no cable at all, so it can sit in the middle of a dining table or on a shelf with nothing behind it.
Control is a touch sensor on the body. A tap switches it on and further taps step the brightness, so there is no switch to find in the dark and nothing on the cable to fumble for. It runs on a built-in rechargeable lithium battery, charged over USB, which comfortably covers an evening's use. The light is directed upward through the shade, which softens it and bounces it off the ceiling rather than throwing it straight into the room.
Two finishes are offered. Black is the more contemporary of the pair, quiet and graphic, and disappears against darker furniture. Gold is the warmer choice, catching light along the brushed surface and reading as the more decorative of the two beside a bed or on a dining table. Elise suits bedsides, dining tables, consoles and living room side tables, and works particularly well where a cable would otherwise be visible.
