A cobalt blue base, a cherry red arm and a sunflower yellow shade sit in deliberate, unapologetic contrast, three primary colors arranged in the visual language of the Memphis Group. This is not a lamp you tuck into a corner. It is a lamp that makes the corner worth photographing.
Memphis was a design rebellion. In 1981 a group of Italian designers led by Ettore Sottsass decided that furniture and lighting did not need to be neutral, and used primary color, bold geometry and playful form to challenge the idea that good design meant invisible design. Primo carries that spirit forward without imitation. Each segment reads as a distinct structural element rather than a color applied to a shape.
At just over six feet tall it holds its own beside a sofa or a desk, and the narrow footprint means it takes very little floor. It works best against a plain wall where the color blocking has room to register, in a studio, a loft, a home office or any room that has gone slightly too beige. It plugs in, so no installation is required.
